Managing Locations
Locations are the core building blocks of AdventureLog. A location represents any place you want to track, whether it is a famous landmark, a local park, a restaurant, or a hidden gem you discovered on your travels.
Creating a Location
To create a new location:
- Navigate to Locations from the navigation bar or click Add Location on your dashboard
- Enter the location name and description
- Set the geographic coordinates (you can search for a place or drop a pin on the map)
- Choose a category (e.g., parks, museums, restaurants)
- Add tags for additional classification
- Save the location
Adding Visits
Each location can have multiple visits recorded against it:
- Click on a location to open its detail view
- Add a new visit with the date and any notes about your experience
- If all visit dates are in the future, the location is marked as planned
- Once a visit date is in the past, the location status changes to completed
Uploading Images
Enhance your locations with photos:
- Upload images directly from your device
- If the Immich integration is enabled, you can select photos from your Immich library
- Images serve as visual records of your visits and appear on location cards throughout the app
Attachments and Files
Beyond images, you can attach files to any location:
- Maps, brochures, tickets, or any other relevant documents
- Attachments are accessible from the location detail page
Categories and Tags
Categories group locations by type. You can create custom categories that match how you organize your travels (hiking spots, restaurants, historical sites, etc.).
Tags add flexible metadata to locations. Unlike categories (which are one-per-location), you can add multiple tags to capture details like cuisine type, difficulty level, or season.
Trails and Activities
For outdoor locations, you can link trails and log activities:
- Trails: Associate hiking paths, biking routes, or other journeys with a location. Trails can be linked from AllTrails or imported through the Wanderer integration, providing distance and elevation data.
- Activities: Record what you did at a location, including activity type (hiking, biking, skiing, kayaking), time, distance, and the trail taken. Activities can be manually entered or imported from Strava. GPX data from activities will display on the location map.
