Organizing Collections and Trips
Collections in AdventureLog are a flexible way to group locations together. They can function as simple folders or as full trip itineraries, depending on how you configure them.
Types of Collections
Folder Collections
When you create a collection without start and end dates, it acts as a folder. Use these to organize locations by theme:
- "Best Hiking Trails in Colorado"
- "Restaurants to Try"
- "Weekend Getaway Ideas"
Trip Collections
Adding start and end dates to a collection transforms it into a trip itinerary. Trip collections unlock additional features:
- A day-by-day breakdown of your schedule
- A route map showing the path between locations
- Transportation, lodging, notes, and checklist management
Creating a Collection
- Navigate to Collections from the navigation bar
- Click the button to create a new collection
- Enter a name and optional description
- Optionally set start and end dates to create a trip itinerary
- Add locations to the collection from your existing locations list
Trip Planning Features
When your collection has dates, these additional tools become available:
Transportation
Add transportation segments between locations:
- Specify the mode of transport (flight, train, car, bus, etc.)
- Include flight numbers, departure times, and arrival information
- View the route between locations on the trip map
Lodging
Track where you will stay during your trip:
- Add hotel names, addresses, and contact details
- Include reservation numbers and check-in/check-out times
- Assign lodging to specific dates of your trip
Notes
Add notes to your trip for additional context:
- Write trip summaries, daily reflections, or planning details
- Assign notes to specific days for organized reference
- Use the markdown editor for formatted text
Checklists
Stay organized with checklists:
- Create packing lists, to-do items, or preparation tasks
- Assign checklists to specific trip days
- Check off items as you complete them
Sharing Collections
Collections can be shared with other users on the same AdventureLog instance through the Invites feature. Share your trip plans or location lists with travel companions.
